Bansko travel

If you are planning a holiday, Bansko travel options are varied. You are visiting one of the newest economy ski resorts in the European region, as well as a town full of history and atmosphere. So take a few minutes to consider your Bansko travel arrangements before you rush off and book the first thing you find. Unlike other holiday ski resort areas, there are not a lot of travel options when it comes to getting around Bansko, although due to its small area and tight community location walking is a suitable option.

Once you arrive in the city of Bansko you may choose to use taxis since their rates are reasonably cheap. However, it is in your best interest to negotiate the price before you take a trip, due to the fact that, like many tourist areas of the world, the local taxi drivers are not always fair and can take a slightly longer alternate route.

It is also recommended by travel guides that you ask your hotel to arrange for a taxi for you, as this is the easiest way to avoid a long wait and receive a fair price.

The new bus station in the city can connect you with the surrounding towns of Delchev, Dobrinishte, Plovdiv and others. Behind the bus station is the railway station tickets can be purchased at the little kiosks around the post office.

Bansko travel from the airport

Before you actually arrive in Bansko you have a three hour ride from Sofia airport. Whether you choose a private taxi ride over the 160km (100 euros) or to share a minibus for up to 8 people (150 euros total - c. 20 Euros each) compare prices and availablility from professional trabsfer companies like OK Supertrans.

You can of course also choose to hire a car at the airport. The usual suspects of Avis, Budget, Hertz and SIXT are all options as are local firms like Moto-Pfohe Rent-a-Car.

Finally, there are also a couple of bus companies running airport to town shuttles. Most run out of the city centre and all are considered unreliable and timetables are just a "guide", the fare is around 15 Lev.
